Guatemala is the number one quality producer of coffee in the Americas. However, the market for coffee and chocolate is controlled by multinationals and it is not by accident that the near totality of workers in these industries in the Third World receive minimal compensation in return for their work. The Mayan descendents of Guatemala have had a continuous 500 years of colonisation which has left them in a situation of extreme poverty.  Life for them will continue in that way unless companies like ours stand up to assist. We buy direct from the small farming cooperatives from the different regions of Guatemala ensuring that they get a fair price for their products. In doing so, the consumers of our products will know that their consumption can actually provide for a dramatic change without any additional cost to them. This is why we are branding our coffees and chocolates with a label: “Non Colonialistic”.

Mayan Coffee is also particularly interested in increasing the level of education of the Mayan people so they can achieve an improved level of economic independence and a better understanding of their position in the global world. We are currently sponsoring Ajb' atz' Enlace Quiché's Social Justice Program to aid the education of Mayan children in their villages.  We wish to provide computer literacy in their own indigenous languages for the purpose of encouraging and preserving their traditions and cultural heritage. The intention is to work with schools where the local language is taught along side of Spanish.

We visit Guatemala regularly and would be more than happy to show you a series of pictures and videos, which reflect the soul of the coffee you drink. We would also welcome the opportunity to discuss our role in the Social Justice Program.

NON-COLONIALISTIC LOGO

WHAT DOES IT MEAN???………

If you are a coffee drinker it is likely that you support an industry whose production is based on the poverty of its workers and this is perpetuated by the limited access to education.

The NON-COLONIALISTIC logo will connect you as a drinker of coffee to the people who grow and harvest the coffee.

Your consumption will help implement change to the economical situation of the workers and their family’s access to education. This is done in a transparent manner – where you, the NON-COLONIALISTIC coffee drinker, have direct access to communicate with the scholarship children in Guatemala, the recipients of your support.

We can give you the opportunity to be involved directly by way of making a Scholarship donation or volunteering.

We believe that the flavours of your coffee are enhanced with the knowledge that your consumption of NON-COLONIALISTIC Coffee will help to implement social changes.

One Scholarship donation of $35 will

provide 10 weeks schooling of computer skills in a remote village of

 Guatemala.

DRINK coffee with the NON-

COLONIALISTIC logo.
